McDonald’s Launches World-First Mobile Experience with Monopoly Game

McDonald’s Australia has launched what is said to be the world-first mobile experience for its largest promotion with the Monopoly Game at Macca’s app. The leading hamburger fast food restaurant chain has transformed the entire promotion into a mobile gaming experience. It playfully unites the digital and physical worlds with augmented reality experience giving its users unique chances to win.

What is it
The game involves simple steps like Purchase, Peel ‘N’ Reveal, Scan your Chance Card with Monopoly at Macca’s app, and redeem the prize. Users can get game tickets by purchasing the prescribed McDonald’s products. They can peel the game ticket to reveal three different ways to win: Instant Win, Collect Win or Chance Card. If they win Chance Card they need to scan the chance card and play for one in five chances to win instantly.

What you need to do
Users need to download Monopoly at Macca’s app to scan the code into the virtual game board. The home screen of the app also doubles as a virtual game board. It allows customers to scan, stash and redeem their Monopoly tickets on their smartphone device. While the player’s ‘stash’ becomes a digital wallet for both major prizes and instant win food offers that you can swipe-to-redeem in restaurant at any McDonald’s across the country.

Features
The game features three augmented-reality game mechanics. The first one is ‘Tap to Play’. In this, game cards fly into the real-world via the phone’s camera and augmented reality before letting players choose a card to ‘Tap’ for the chance to win. Spin to Win requires players to spin the card in the hope of uncovering prizes. In the Dice Roll game, players are to roll a perfect combination to land on prizes on the virtual monopoly game board.
